Another Friday is upon us....Whoohoo!!   I am loving the light grey, wintery white feel to the favorites board today. A little snow has fallen around us this week....maybe this was this inspiration.

Statement Lighting.

If there is a place to make a bold statement in your home, its definitely the front entrance.  And what better way to do this with amazing light fixtures!  I had so much fun sourcing lighting for a client's foyer recently.  Thought I would share....

Mix it Up : Traditional + Modern Styles

The key to great decorating is mixing a few different styles into a room.  This gives the room character and contrast.  It also keeps a room from looking like you went to the store and bought everything from the same furniture line...a feeling of collecting pieces over time.

You may also love 2 or 3 different styles and don't want to have to choose.  I love the look of a modern home but often feel like its too cold for everyday living. This is where adding traditional elements into the room can make it feel more warm and inviting.

Concrete

I have always loved the look of concrete in home decor.  It is often associated with an industrial modern style, but it can easily be incorporated into any home. I've gathered up a few pretty "pinterest" pictures showing this trend....

Concrete pendants help to visually balance out the large island.

A fun little DIY project....making concrete book ends.





Its all in the details.....why not add concrete shelving.




Subtle use of concrete on the top of the coffee table.

Love the look of concrete floors!!  Good idea to have a heating system underneath or area rugs.




And one of the most common uses of concrete...on the counter tops.  Definitely more maintenance required as they need to be regularly sealed, but they really bring a wow factor to the kitchen!

CB2 x Kravitz Design

I have been waiting patiently for the release of  CB2 x Kravitz Design.... and they didn't disappoint!



I love the 70's inspired style.....with a modern, glam twist.  I mean, anything Lenny Kravitz touches is going to be super cool!

Colour Inspiration: Burgundy

Fall is the perfect season for colour inspiration.  Reds and browns immediately come to mind.  Cosy, warm hues that make you want to bundle up and sit by the fire.  Its time to bring out the Burgundy.

Mountain escape

We just spent a really great week at Patricia Lake Bungalows in Jasper National Park.  This has been our favorite spot to go the last couple of summers.  The accommodation, views of the mountains and lake, and staff are all AMAZING!

It is tucked away up on the mountain surrounded by trees and wildlife.  We even had a baby bear walk past the cabin one evening.

Here are a few pictures (from the website) of the cabin we have stayed in for the past 2 years...love the chalet decor!

This is the loft where the girls slept.  They loved having their own space.

The window seat was a big hit!  And a good place to "try" and get wifi (which was obviously sporadic in the mountains).

I highly suggest heading to these cabins if you are looking for a mountain getaway in Jasper!

Modern Ceiling Fans

I LOVE summer!  I especially LOVE summer heat....mainly because we only get a few weeks of it this far up north.   This past month has seemed warmer than usual and it looks like we are going into another heat wave starting tomorrow.  Because we do not have air conditioning, we have to combat the heat with fans.  We finally had a ceiling fan installed in our bedroom and it has made a HUGE difference on those hot nights.

I had a really hard time finding a fan that I liked. Ceiling fans are not known for their design qualities.  I did end up finding a plain modern black one which goes nicely with our decor.  Here are a few pictures that inspired my search.





The other issue I had was our low ceiling height (8').  This definitely limited our selection because many of the fans hang too low.  We ended up going with the "hugger" style (number 8 below)....one that is close to the ceiling.

Spring!!

The first day of Spring calls for a major celebration around these northern parts...even if you get a dump of snow overnight (like we did). Spring is by far my favourite season. The excitement of warmer weather, increased daylight and of course spring decorating!  This is the time of year when I am itching to lighten up the mood around the house...new fabrics and fresh paint.

With all of the beautiful new Spring fabric launches, why not change up your drapery.  One of the most requested style of window coverings I get are Roman Blinds.  They are a great way to add a pop of colour or detail to a room without overwhelming the space.

Green Crush.

Happy St. Patties Day!  In the spirit of all things green, I thought this would be a great day to go on about how much I love green sofas.  Funny story...when Rob and I met, way back in 1997, we both owned green sofas! Seriously!

My love affair continues after seeing this video of Sarah Jessica Parker's home. She has a green sofa....perfectly lived in comfy style.  I LOVE this Vogue series.  If you get a chance, check out a few of the others.

Do note, that I love green sofas, but not sure I could actually purchase one.  I tend to stay on the conservative, safe-side of furniture purchases these days.  But, you never know...maybe one day.
