Shopping for the home....in the Fashion Isle.

Sometimes the best place to shop for home decorating accessories is in your favourite clothing store. The last few years there have been a few large clothing chains that have opened their doors to another market...home decorating.

H&M

I like H&M's home section for small bathroom accessories and throw pillows. They have fun with their line and even have an area for the kiddos.

I love the European feel of Zara's clothing stores.  While we do not have Zara Home in any of the stores in Canada, we are still able to order online.  They have a lot of items to choose from, including furniture, lighting, hardware, bedding, tabletop and much much more.

Simons is a trendy clothing store based out of Quebec, Canada. They are massive and have something for everyone....all styles and budgets.  They even have a home section that boasts lots of stylish accessories.

Where do you find the most treasures when you're shopping?

2017 TRENDS: GREIGE

Grey has been a really popular colour in interior design for quite awhile now.  For some, it has run its course and they are looking for something new and fresh.  Greige is taking over that spot for the new go-to neutral. What is greige? It is that perfect combination of grey and beige.  Its softer than grey, but more modern than beige.

I love the look of greige with crisp white trim and natural woods.  I'm am also seeing greige on cabinets and furniture.  Check out my 3 favourite greige paint colours and a few interiors that caught my eye....all using this new trend perfectly!

Large Portrait Art

Continuing on with the ART theme this week.......I really love the idea of hanging LARGE scale portrait photography in your home.  It gives a personal feel to the space....displaying a favorite actor/musician or family member....or maybe just a portrait you are drawn to.

I think the best place to hang this style of art is in the living/family room.  Here are a few favs I've come across recently.....

Online Art Resources

One of my absolute favourite things to do is shop for ART online!  Its like a rabbit hole for me....once I get started I could be online for hours.  I love that art is such a personal thing. We all see value and connection in different pieces  I really get to know my clients when sourcing art for their projects.  Its fascinating to see what people are drawn to.

If you are in the market for a piece of art and have some time to browse online, here are a few of my favourite (more budget friendly) online art resources.

MINTED

This is usually the first site I visit when I am looking for art.  I love the feeling you get when you are browsing through the galleries....like you are a part of an exclusive artist's community.  I especially love the water colours and photography pieces.  And they have really great framing options.

SOCIETY 6

I love Society 6 because they have thousands of  artists showcased, it is really affordable and they are a little more casual and quirky.  You can choose to have any of the pieces printed in so many different ways.  Prints, framed prints, canvas prints, metal, t-shirts, pillows, iphone cases, throw blankets, coffee mugs...you name it!

This is another online resource that has thousands of affordable prints.  From classic artists such as Monet, Warhol, Rothko to new up and coming artists. I love that they display each art piece in a room of your choice. I find this really helps to visualize the piece. And they always have big sales.

This is an amazing company out of Vancouver, BC. I love that they have created a niche for themselves with offering prints of Vintage art.  You must check them out if you are looking for something more traditional and historical.  They have great wallpaper too!!

I love love love the photography on this site.  If you are looking for something completely different and unique, this company is out of Montreal and they have such a keen eye for art.  More pricey than the other sites I have mentioned, but they do have something for every budget. You will love browsing through this gallery.

This is a great site if you are looking for simple photography with a minimalist poster feel.  I love so many pieces in their gallery and they are all really budget friendly.

There are literally hundreds of online art sites...this is just a few that I find myself coming back to regularly.  Do you have any sites you like to visit?

Have a great day!

Hygge.

Hygge.....pronounced (hue-gah) is a Danish concept that has become more recognized internationally in the past year.  The word does not have a direct English translation, but describes a feeling or mood of cosiness, charm, happiness, contentness, security and simpleness.  It is the idea of creating a warm atmosphere, slowing down, taking pleasure and enjoying the good things in life with good people.  This may explain why the Danes are considered the happiest people in the world.

Hygge in the Home is a cosy room filled with candles, company and good food.  Winter is the high time for Hygge.  Sitting by the fire with a warm cup of tea and woolen socks, baking warm cinnamon buns, visiting with family and friends, watching tv under a duvet are all examples of Hygge.

I'm definitely intrigued by this concept and plan to do a little more research on the subject...possibly reading one of the many books that have come out on the market this past year....

I think us Northern Canadians will have no problem embracing the art of Hygge!
